The harmonious conjunction between nature and grace constitutes one of the most delicate points of Catholic theology. The work of Domingo Soto, an important Dominican theologian of the 16th century, is an admirable effort to show, following the Tridentine magisterium, the possible configurations of both elements, bearing in mind the first creation, the sin of our first parents and redemption. In this paper we will analyze these diverse states or stable modes of being in relation to the ultimate end, relying on his work De natura et gratia.

Some time ago Gaven Kerr, an Irish Dominican Tertiary, published an admirable work on the proof of God’s existence as formulated in De ente et essentia, the early work of Thomas Aquinas (cf. Aquinas’s way to God. New York: Oxford University Press, 2011). Although little studied, this proof is perhaps one of the most solid metaphysically speaking, since it is based on the real composition of being and essence in every finite entity to go back by way of causality (and participation) to a first absolutely uncaused agent, that is to say , al esse subsistens.

Petrus Calo, one of the first biographers of Saint Thomas, tells that being just five years old our Dominican “asked his teacher anxiously and frequently: what is God?”. This question would accompany and, somehow, shape his whole life. Making this same question his own and from the hand of Saint Thomas, Rudi te Velde undertakes, in the work that we review, an investigation that seeks to deepen the truth about God. Although it is not a “recent” work, we find it interesting to comment on it because of the repercussion it has had and because it constitutes an habitual reference for those who study the De Deo uno treatise on Saint Thomas.

The problem of analogy has occupied much of the thomistic discussion in the second half of the last century. Going directly into the various positions would exceed the limits of an article; however, in a reflective and proactive exercise, we would like to expose (from the contributions of Cajetan and Canals to the thought of Aquinas) a justification and the basis of the analogy of proportionality as an adequate tool to establish a discourse on God that ends metaphysical work.

El diálogo ecuménico no puede fundarse exclusivamente en la búsqueda de elementos comunes, sino que debe también trabajar por encontrar aquellas diferencias que señalan en último término la distancia que debe recorrerse para alcanzar nuevamente la unidad. En el problema de la justificación, vemos reflejado aquel punto liminar que separa al catolicismo del protestantismo (como sistemas teológicos) y que puede resumirse en cómo se articulan causalmente la acción de Dios y la del hombre. La “respuesta anticipada” de santo Tomás al protestantismo se soporta en la comprensión de la causalidad divina que, por encontrarse en un plano superior y diverso, no anula la causalidad creada, sino que la integra en el plan divino de salvación
