The defense of Thomism against Suarism: The Faculty of Arts and Philosophy of the University of Barcelona at the beginning of the 18th century

The article tries to show the evolution of the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy of the University of Barcelona from 1700 to 1717, when it was transferred to Cervera. It is proposed a revision of historiography in order to rethink religious trends and intellectual affiliation of professors. With the new information, a list of professors, including their profiles, is provided, and interpretive keys are provided to understand the intellectual confrontation between Thomists and Suarists.

En tanto que conferencia, “El existencialismo es un humanismo” es, a la par, un programa filosófico, y una aproximación divulgativa que Sartre ofrece de su propia filosofía. En este breve escrito, y en su posterior discusión, Sartre esboza algunas de las principales ideas que sostiene en la década de los cuarenta y, matizadamente, en parte de la de los cincuenta, es decir, en su época más deliberadamente existencialista. Antes de entrar en el tema que nos ocupa, consideramos metodológicamente eficaz detenernos en los conceptos más importantes que vamos a manejar, a saber, existencialismo, humanismo y teísmo.
